The delightful dichotomies of Hazbin Hotel

Just finished watching this animated series on Prime. It's a doozy.

The center of the story is Charlotte "Charlie" Morningstar, daughter of Lucifer, and proud owner of Hazbin Hotel --yes, a hotel for 'hazbins' -- who envisions a path for redemption for all the denizens of hell. She just has to convince Heaven that souls can be redeemed and maybe get them to stop sending hordes of angels in an annual culling of the damned.

The dialogue is, frankly, filthy and crude at times. And it's used to great effect. The characters at the hotel have been sorely abused by the world and their language reflects their reality. It may be offputting for some.

But the musical scenes are topnotch and, dare I say, poignant. Check out this musical exchange between Adam, the first man, and Charlie Morningstar:

It's unusual, definitely offensive to anyone with more "delicate" sensibilities. It's effective social commentary. Feminist too, imho.

Great voice actors, including the incomparable Keith David (Goliath from Gargoyles, Dr. Facilier from Princess and the Frog, etc.) Great music, and great story.
