Ciscomani, Engel set to debate in Southern Arizona congressional race

U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani and his Democratic challenger, Kirsten Engel, have agreed to a televised debate later this month.

Ciscomani is seeking a second term in Congressional District 6, which includes precincts in Pima, Pinal, Cochise, Graham and Greenlee counties. The district leans Republican, with 36 percent of voters identifying with the GOP, 31 percent identifying as Democrats and 33 percent who aren’t aligned with either major party. but Engel trailed Ciscomani by less than 2 percent, or 5,232 votes, in 2022.

The televised debate, hosted by Arizona PBS in Phoenix, is scheduled for Thursday, August 29.

The candidates are continuing to negotiate terms for a second televised debate, hosted by Clean Elections and the Arizona Media Association.
