I quite literally could not buy that bread for $10 at the supermarket I favour. A 30-pack of eggs is a few cents over $10. I found a couple of strip-loins the other day that were "affordable," and as my wife was coming home after a 3 month visit to her hometown, I thought I nice supper would be in order. Then I thought we might have our two closest friends over as well, so I looked for another nice pair of steaks (all 3 of them LOVE grilling).

My eyes were drawn to some really nice-looking T-bones, but I quickly put them back when I read the tag. $57.

I really can't and shouldn't complain about my lot in life - I've lived a very lucky one overall. It's just a good thing I was prudent and disciplined, because my wife and I - while not living extravagantly in the SLIGHTEST - run in the red, income-wise, about $600 a month.

We go out for dinner (pub food, typically) once a month, drink VERY little alcohol (can't remember the last time I had 3 drinks of any kind in one day and my wife doesn't drink at all) and drive very little. I'm not fond of travelling, so vacations are so non-exotic as to not exist at all, and I have enough clothes to last me a lifetime, quite literally. And still, we are under water every month.

A place such as the one you posted about would be very welcome, to say the least...although you'd need a phalanx of special forces dudes to get to it.

flank steak, I think... that ran to over $100... I put it back as I was trying to get my jaw up off the floor. A good-sized roast was about the same as your steaks -- $50+. Even hamburger is almost $10 for a little over a pound. It's just too expensive to eat meat anymore! Thing is, the cost of veggies isn't a hell of a lot better. Plus, there have been huge gaps of "nothing there" when I've gone to the store to specifically get something I need for cooking. Like, twice I've gone to the store and there was NO cilantro to be found.

I'm disabled and it's a real pain in the butt to drive to different stores, looking for specific items. And there's only three grocery stores in this whole town, anyway. Sometimes I miss living in the "big city" just for this reason.
