(104,914 posts)a bit too close to sundown on a public trail with my dog near Golden. We hadn't gone too far, though before Park Rangers on bicycles stopped us and let us know of the sighting. I have to think that it couldn't have been all that close, though since my dog--with an incredible nose--did not signal any detection. Close enough though, having been reminded of the Boulder jogger killed by one a few years earlier.
Still, they are so gorgeous and majestic, I will always fight to save them.

(2,772 posts)the Black Range on our way to Silver City NM. Driving slowly through the mountain range a mountain lion approached the road looked right at me crossed the road and slunk down the steep incline on the other side. I will never forget that moment. Beautiful creature.

(3,563 posts)Thought the eastern species has officially been moved to extinct, one of the last ones was shot in PA in 1874 in the county I live in, there have been infrequent spottings in New England and the Canadian maritimes. These resilient creatures will find away, if we give them a chance, to reestablish portions of their former range. Can we coexist? I hope at some level that we can, but we'll have to give a little and I'm not sure all folks will play along.
