Primarily because, frankly I was tremendously disappointed when Newsom enacted lockdown measures, turned right around to a family dinner out. There was justification for some admonition there.
Otherwise I've liked him all along.
But the recall effort clowns collecting petition signatures were only spouting nonsense RWNJ conspiracy crap.

It was a mistake. I’ve eaten their a few times and had to pay for it once too which is the only negative thing. It’s not worth COVID but I think it’s the best restaurant in California. Gavin screwed up but kept this eye on the ball. All while running up a state financial surplus and keeping the people as safe as possible.

This is unpopular but I think he should run for President. He has the credentials.

when considered against all the positive work he's' doing for the state. It was the only talking point the republicans had when they started this partisan recall.

a dumb thing to do and apologize. WTF California? He stood up to he who shall not be named and got what California needed when government stores of PPEs were being sold to the highest bidders. His Monday morning Covid briefings were packed with information. I rarely missed one.

He was not my first choice for Governor but I'm glad we had him when the pandemic hit.

Mailed my NO ballot the day after I received it. Democrats have to vote. Remind your friends and family to vote. Then remind them again

change our crazy recall process. Increase the number of signatures required to at least 25%, and instead of a costly new election if a recall is successful, have the LT Governor become Governor

When Newsom comes out of this, both he and Calif. Dems need to flex their muscles right in Republicans faces. Show them who owns the state. It would be like having a double mandate.

on the other, we risk hubris. Just because we have a supermajority doesn't mean we can get away with anything at all.

I don't like hubris, it usually comes right before a nasty fall.

other states

We have an unusually low threshold of 11%, other states have at least 25%, and they should have the lt governor be the replacement until the next scheduled election

Our recall process is abused, and it will cost us 250 million dollars, not because Newsom did something illegal, but political ideology difference, and allow a minority to replace him

That is hubris

25 percent is reasonable; if you have that much of the electorate pissed, you need at least a bit of shaking up. And having the LT Gov take over is very sensible, too.

for someone to search first before posting the same damned thing again (and again and again).

This was a specific request from Earl G in Latest Breaking News and it makes more sense than worrying about someone's reaction to what they consider 'clickbait'.

I had to think for a minute but I think the most important part is this: most people I talk to are worried about their kids in school and Covid. They sure as hell don’t want a Governor who they know will make that situation worse.

Newsom is not 'likeable', he was far from the best person we could have run, indeed I have a bit of sympathy for Republicans as far as liking the policies but disliking the person.

But the alternative is utter, batshit crazy.

I liked Chiang and Eastin much, much better in the primary and either could have beaten Cox who was, and is, pathetic in every dimension, but Gavin is good on LGBTQ and the environment regardless of his ineptitude on the fires. Indeed it's the failure to beef up wildfire fighting enough that seems to be the biggest issue with my neighbors (such as getting rid of the 747 that dropped lifesaving fire suppression last season), but Elder would just laugh as stuff burned and cut even more.

Elder would be an unmitigated disaster on Covid. The man is a fool.

The ultimate solution is to go to 25% voters needed for recall and the automatic accession of the Lt Governor in the event of one succeeding.
