Related: About this forumMiddle Class Tax Refund
I heard about this on the news last night.
They are basing this refund on the 2020 tax return which I fortunately filed.
According to the formula, I should receive $700.00 soon as my husband was still around in 2020.
I can sure use the money!

I guess many Californians are getting weary of the high prices. I just got home and stopped to get something to eat at a small place nearby. They wanted $14.00 for a hamburger!
I didn't have $14.00 for a hamburger so I came home and had a grilled cheese on a Kaiser roll I found in the freezer.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that this money will help!

(21,046 posts)$6/lb. makes 4 of them
$12/lb. makes 8 of them
Eight kaiser rolls would be $3.00.
Total for 8 of them would have been about $15.00 with no condiments added in!
Unbelievable and yes, I came home and had my own grilled cheese!

(2,204 posts)When you say he was "still around in 2020," do you mean that he's not alive now?
As you note in your list, to be eligible, people have to be a CA resident on the date the payment is issued.
I don't see any indication that a person who filed a 2020 return can get a check even if they're dead now.
I'm also waiting for my $350.
p.s. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, but I'm not sure you should have your hopes up.

He died in May of this year.
They should give it to me as I spent loads of money driving him to all of his medical appts. They were all long trips and my car gets 21 MPG.
How will they know being I do not file for it. It is sent the same way the Golden State stimulus was sent. They went by the tax return for the year 2020.

(2,204 posts)What I'm worried about is that you'll get it and then have to give it back. That would be a hardship.

This should answer any/all questions they may have about the situation in this household last year when he was still alive.
I'm not giving anything back if I get anything that is! I am certainly not misrepresenting myself!
I'll worry about my own finances. I don't need your assistance.

(2,204 posts)I still have the same account I had back in 2020, so I wouldn't have noticed anything. That's very strange.
The next round of payments is supposed to go out this week.

(21,046 posts)It says that the primary person named on the card is who the money is for. That is my name but my late husband's name is on it too but he could not access it being he is not the person named primarily.
There is no date on the letter they sent me with the ATM card.
It is supposedly good for $700.00 and is based on my 2020 Calif. State income tax return.
I'll take it to the bank and see what they have to say.
Hoping for the best as I can sure use the money right now!

(9,064 posts)your amount is. The 1-800 should be in the paperwork that came with your card.
I got mine today and was disappointed because I thought the only criteria was: 1) Did you file your 2020 taxes. 2) What was your adjusted gross income.
I thought the amounts were from $500 - $1,050. I was wrong. They also factor in your dependents (I guess from 2020).
My amount was for $350. I was expecting the highest amount, $1,050 because my income was so low in 2020. I received my debit card today. I was confused so I called my State Senator's office. The young man who answered the phone was wonderful! He walked me through the "what I qualify for" site and sure enough, $350 was the correct amount for me (no dependents).
So, I've come to terms with the fact that it was a lot than I expected and am just happy to have received anything at all......
BTW - I'd think that you for sure qualify for having a dependent because they're going by your 2020 taxes. I hope it works out for you.
