Temecula students walk out in protest of new critical race theory ban

Story by Allyson Vergara,

Temecula’s youth are protesting a new resolution banning the teaching of critical race theory in schools.

Hundreds of students from Great Oak High School participated in a peaceful walkout from classes Friday morning, Dec. 16. The teenagers were speaking out against the critical race theory ban passed by a new conservative majority on the Temecula Valley Unified school board this week.

Sienna Andrade, a Great Oak senior and student body co-president, called the resolution a way of “censoring history,” and said she does not think it’s necessary “if CRT is not being taught” in schools.

“This is a student-run movement,” said Andrade, 17. “Students are more outspoken and involved; we want to stand up for what we believe in. We have the right to make change and have our voices heard.”

The school board’s 3-2 vote to prohibit critical race theory in classrooms came after a contentious meeting that ended early Wednesday, Dec. 14. The three trustees who voted to approve the ban — Joseph Komrosky, Danny Gonzalez and Jen Wiersma — were part of a new conservative Christian board majority sworn in at the meeting.

That’s been the statement since this whole ridiculous thing started. High schools never had this course.

Nothing that might make a white kid "uncomfortable". So weird. What about all the other kids?

I guess that is showing their true colors.... White. Beige.
