California snowpack soars to nearly 200% of normal

KTLA
While many parts of California are coping with the destructive impact of this winter’s seemingly endless series of storms, the news is nothing but good when it comes to the snowpack outlook.

As of Monday, California’s snow water equivalent is 199% of normal for this date (January 9), according to the California Department of Water Resources.

The Southern Sierra is 222% of normal. The Central Sierra is 201% while the Northern Sierra/Trinity is 173%.

“We are seeing the best start to our snowpack in over a decade,” DWR tweeted. “But it is only a start – most of the winter season has yet to unfold.”

Off to a great start!

I'm in Tahoe and we're literally BURIED... flooding also since the snow clogs the drains.

I'm worried I wont be able to get back home after work, the roads are so bad. My daughter works at a hotel in town and is trying to get me a room for the night just in case...

Lived here 30 years and this is narly AF

The Pineapple Express is an atmospheric river that forms near Hawaii, where pineapples are grown, the NOAA said. It carries warm, moist air north to the West Coast, where it can produce up to 5 inches of rain a day, the agency said.

Interesting enough, a hugh snowpack can absorb a ton of water, so that could work in our favor, until it doesn't.
