(1,154 posts)It's hard to believe now, but this kind of winter rain was normal back in the day. I moved out here in '73, so I know of which I speak.

(1,856 posts)However Sacramento had a decent rain this morning when I left the casino.
But those two lakes mentioned above were the lowest of the state's reservoirs. Today's snow and rain helped greatly for those two lakes.
Oroville is just fine now. The snow pack will fill the lake just fine, and it is a big lake.
Folsom is a small lake and is mostly for flood control. And if we get much more, I fear for more flooding in the Sacramento region. Wilton already got hit earlier.
The southern Sierra's have over 200% snowfall and they should be just fine.
And for Lake Mead, there has been quite a bit of snow and rain in Utah and Western Colorado so that will help the lake come June and July.

"While winter storms have helped the snowpack and reservoirs, groundwater basins are much slower to recover. Many rural areas are still experiencing water supply challenges, especially communities that rely on groundwater supplies which have been depleted due to prolonged drought, said Jeanine Jones, Interstate Resources Manager at DWR."

(10,661 posts)but even I'm getting tired of the constant rain. OK, we do have 10-15 minutes of sun in between the rains, but it's been five days straight so far. At least it's a gentle rain that's unlikely to cause more floods. So far - we still have March to go.
