San Jose Burger King employees held a strike and rally after a co-worker was denied leaving her shift early despite suffering severe pain. Laura Reyes was pregnant and later suffered a miscarriage and potentially had a dangerous ectopic pregnancy.

Almost all of the BK locations are privately owned franchises. This is on that particular owner.

I consulted for one, decades ago. One individual controlled over 200 Burger King franchises in California and Louisiana, plus nearly 40 Chevy's franchises. The company was focused on profit and expansion, literally monitoring fractional pennies spent on pickles, lettuce, and condiments like ketchup, and earned millions.

Doesn't take much to imagine how all employees in any situation might be treated. This sounds like the work of an untrained manager, or, one under strict orders to just be a douchebag.
