Eight dead in Central Valley crash, including farmworkers on their way to work

According to Ruvalcaba, the crash involved a van that was carrying eight farmworkers on their way to work and a heavy-duty pick-up truck with one driver and no passengers. The drivers of both vehicles and six passengers in the van succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, Ruvalcaba said.

Only one person in the van survived, an adult male who was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. Ruvalcaba said the man is in stable condition.

All occupants in the van except the driver and right, front passenger were not wearing their seatbelts during the crash, Ruvalcaba said.

CHP is investigating the crash and it's unknown whether drugs or alcohol was a factor in the collision. Ruvalcaba said CHP received reports of the pick-up truck “all over the road” and swerving before the crash.
