Ex-Sheriff Lee Baca found hours after going missing (he has dementia)
Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, who has dementia, was found safe early Monday, July 15, about eight hours after he apparently wandered away from his San Marino home.
San Marino Police Chief John Incontro told reporters at about 1 a.m. that Baca was found in an El Monte restaurant and identified with the help of a bracelet he wears.
Baca suffered no injuries, Incontro said: He seemed to be in good spirits.
Baca, 82, was reported missing from his home after 4:30 p.m. by a relative.
His attorneys said in 2016, before his conviction for obstructing an FBI investigation into abuse in county jails, that he has Alzheimers disease. He served about two years of a three-year sentence in federal prison.
The San Marino Police Department headed the search for Baca and was assisted by several nearby departments and sheriffs missing-persons detectives, Incontro said.
