Less than four months out from Election Day, Democrats in a handful of Orange Countys battleground congressional districts show signs of fundraising momentum with donors.
State Sen. Dave Min, whos running for the open 47th congressional district against Republican Scott Baugh, reported raising $1.4 million in the most recently reported fundraising quarter, the highest amount posted by any candidate running for an Orange County congressional seat.
Democrat Derek Tran, in a closely watched race against Rep. Michelle Steel in the 45th congressional district, reported his best fundraising quarter yet, raising $1.3 million in the same period that covered April to June.
Republicans high fundraising totals from last year are providing them some cushion. Steel outpaces Tran by $1.5 million in cash-on-hand totals the total amount of money immediately available to a candidate and Baugh has over $800,000 more than Min. But the two Democrats higher donation total this quarter is a reversal from last year leading up to the primary election when their Republican opponents were by and large bringing in the most cash.
