San Mateo County school districts seek revenue through ballot
Multiple school districts throughout the county are seeking voter support for new revenue sources to address ongoing needs such as facility improvements, updated educational resources, and the ability to offer employees competitive pay.
Local ballot measures this November will ask voters to decide on whether these districts should be able to tax parcels which require two-thirds approval or issue bonds that are paid back through property taxes over time requiring 55% approval.
The Belmont-Redwood Shores School District is sponsoring a bond measure, seeking $171 million to dedicate to its seven school sites. If approved, the money will replace aging technology, repair leaky roofs, fix its heating and cooling systems, and update various educational equipment.
The last of the district's previous $48 million bond measure, approved by voters in 2014, was sold last fall and the district is on track to meeting its expenditure requirement.
