Hello neighbors,
I'm an active member of three of our Democratic Clubs and we have two Supervisor races and one City Council Race and some ballot initiatives coming up.
One of the Supervisor Races in particular needs help-- one of the candidates is being funded by wealthy coastal property owners who want help fighting the Coastal Commission on housing and coastal resiliency matters.
If you're a Santa Cruz County voter or connected with any Dems eligible to vote, I'd love to hear from you.
Who's out there?

(18,056 posts)I know everything changes, but its sad to see the struggles Santa Cruz has been through, exacerbated by the influence of the moneyed Silicon Valley millionaire property owners.
When it takes an hour, sometimes two, to drive from Watsonville to Downtown Santa Cruz(or vice versa), when it used to take 20-30 minutes, even in rush hour traffic, somethings not working.
When I moved to BC in 2012, I could get from my job sites in downtown San Jose/Santa Clara to the Hwy17/1 fish hook (about 40 miles over a winding mountain highway)quicker than I could from the fish hook to the Soquel Drive exit to my home (about 2-3 miles).
Its only gotten worse since.
Good luck in your election efforts.

(2,810 posts)And it's the wealthy, largely tech sector, individuals who made it this way with second and third homes, and opposition to public transit projects.
We own the Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line, that could have been in use for transit by now if not for the efforts of a handful of wealthy tech sector and ag operators.

(2,810 posts)Kristen is opposed by a candidate who opposes the Coastal Commission, opposes Ethnic Studies, and takes donations from opponents of public transit.
Kristen got the most votes in the primary but the opponent's fundraising for the general is bringing in much more than our side.
We need help here!
