Campaign behind Sonoma County child care ballot measure is ramping up

A quarter-cent tax measure intended to bolster child care resources and children’s health care in Sonoma County appears poised for success come November, with no formal opposition, a padded campaign fund and needing only a simple majority to pass.

Still, to do so, Measure I must set itself apart on a ballot crowded with dozens of other local measures and state initiatives.

Organizers behind Measure I, the Sonoma County Child Care and Children’s Health Initiative, have cumulatively raised over $1 million since 2022, according to the latest campaign finance filings.

But Measure I organizers have run a relatively quiet campaign, overshadowed by the debate over Measure J, a proposal that would outlaw the county’s largest poultry and dairy farms or force them to downsize.
