So I have to show up while I'm still 69, to renew my license. I wonder if they'll make me take the test?
Knowing my luck, the answer will be yes.

No, in California, if you are 69 years old, the DMV will not require you to take the written test; however, if you turn 70 years old when your license expires, you may need to renew in person and pass a vision test, but most likely will not need to retake the written knowledge test based on recent updates from the DMV.

I don't have a link but I did Google it...

"will dmv make me take the written test if I'm 69 years old?"

You just made my day. And the next two years! Because now I don't have to study for the darn test!

Thank you so much!

Was it only drivers over 70 who had to retake the written part of the driving test? I’ve had a license in Texas for 47 years (I’m 65) and I have never had to retake the written or the road test since I got my got my license.

I was just surprised that anyone, anywhere would ever have to retake the written part of the driving test again. As if someone driving for 50 years would forget the rules of the road such as what traffic signs mean or that they should signal to change lanes. I understand why a state might want to have a driver do a road test again but not the written test. Good for California for changing this.

I've been "studying" for the written test the last month-- oh well. I did learn some things I didn't know, so it wasn't wasted.
