Why rent control is on the ballot for Santa Ana voters

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Santa Ana voters will have until Nov. 5th to decide how future changes are made to the city's rent stabilization and just cause eviction ordinance through Measure CC. The city has had the ordinance in effect since 2021 with the possibility of future amendments by the City Council. While some voters believe this will bring more reassurance that rent control will remain in place, others believe it could make it harder to evict unruly tenants.

On the ballot, voters will be asked: Shall the measure adopting a Rent Stabilization and Just Cause Eviction Ordinance be adopted?

A "yes" vote would be in favor of future changes to be made by a simple majority of voters, not the City Council.

A "no" vote would keep the current ordinance as is, allowing for future changes to be made by the City Council.
