Pelosi funnels $50K to measure with huge fundraising edge

House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi directed nearly $50,000 to support a San Francisco firefighters ballot measure last week, furthering her already unusually direct involvement in local electoral politics this year.

The Pelosi for Congress campaign gave $49,200 to the committee supporting Proposition H, a measure that would lower the retirement age for San Francisco firefighters, according to newly filed campaign finance disclosures.

Pelosi had already publicly endorsed the proposition last month, but had not contributed to it financially until last week. It’s unclear if the measure needs Pelosi’s financial boost; the pro-Prop. H side has already raised more than $1.4 million and faces no organized opposition.

The move is certain to fuel further already rampant speculation that Pelosi is setting the table and shoring up a coalition of support for her daughter, political strategist Christine, to run for office when Pelosi decides to eventually retire from Congress.
