S.F. election: After years of bitter contests, DA race plays out quietly

After years of bitterly contested elections for San Francisco district attorney, this year’s race has played out quietly by comparison.

Ever since her July 2022 mayoral appointment after the recall of progressive District Attorney Chesa Boudin, Brooke Jenkins has sought to cultivate an aura of inevitability in her subsequent campaigns.

She handily won a November 2022 special election to finish Boudin’s term, despite some ethical controversies that rattled her first days in office. And this year she has rarely acknowledged challenger Ryan Khojasteh, a former San Francisco prosecutor Jenkins fired shortly after taking office.

While Jenkins’ team recently released an attack ad on Khojasteh, there have been no debates and no polls released on the race. Meanwhile two pro-Jenkins committees have outraised Khojasteh $544,000 to $109,000.
