I think Matt Mahan is going to make it more likely that a republican will be in the general election for Governor.

Mahan is currently Mayor of San Jose, and Silicon Valley is throwing tons of money for his campaign.

As a Mayor, not only he hasn't been in that long, he hasn't done much in my opinion, and now with all the silcon valley money pouring into his campaign for governor, he is really gumming up the race in my view, and actually making it more likely that a MAGA will be in the general election.

Democrats better unify behind one candidate quickly, or our STUPID jungle primary is going to make the possibility of having a MAGA Governor a reality.

and anyone who thinks this cannot happen in California, this state elected arnold schwarzenegger, ronald reagan, etc.

Not only would it better reflect the will of the people, it could conceivably be done in a single election instead of primary

Any idea why they do it this way? It seems to have no discernable upside with a definitive down side

general election.

The jungle primary is the most stupid idea ever created.

and while they are at it they should increase the threshold for recall to a number that actually represent a state our size, at least 25% signatures, instead of the around 12% necessary.

Why in the hell are so many Democrats running in this race, when some know they have no chance of winning, but only splitting votes.

I ask myself that every time I see a primary with more that 3-4 candidates. Surely people polling at 5% or less must know they have no chance.

Our party seems to be good, as the inverted saying goes, of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Talk about selfish, getting into such an important race with that type of baggage.

it was something like that it would have been after the primary, and closer to the general election. Something like was done to Hillary, and Hillary actually didn't actually do anything wrong.

Now, in the case of Eric Swalwell, let's assume that the R word hadn't come up, and Swalwell had an affair with a consenting staff member, like Gavin Newsome did. It still wasn't right, but do you think Swalwell could have gotten out ahead of this like Newsom did?

Newsom didn't wait to get sued by someone or for the dirt to be dug up by a publication. He came out and publicly admitted he had an affair when he was going through a divorce, said it was wrong and apologized. The married woman he had the affair with said she wanted it to be clear, it was wrong to do it, but she didn't consider herself a victim.

Affairs aren't uncommon, and considering they often get dug up, I just think the way Newsom handled it is the way to go.

Not my business or anyone else’s unless it were with someone that could endanger classified information. Nobody is perfect, and I don’t think we need to be everyone’s bedroom police. It’s puritanical and backwards.

I also think you should have the right to defend yourself and should not automatically have to step down. Anyone can make an accusation. When it gets to the point of multiple accusations and your own staff turns on you, I think it would be difficult to continue doing your job effectively.

He has raised almost 13 million dollars from donors like Sergy Brin, and others. Most Democrats I know look at him as "Republican lite." He was elected as a city council member for four years and left after two to run for mayor, where he's been for three years. The fact that he's backed by so many tech bros and billionaires is one of the reasons I'm not supporting him. Plus, I haven't been impressed by him as our mayor. I sure hope he doesn't end up as our governor.

"San José Mayor Matt Mahan helps to install a Flock Safety brand automated license plate reader on April 23, 2024. Civil liberties groups are now suing the city and Mahan over the technology’s uses."

"Residents are suing San José over its Flock Safety cameras, alleging that the city’s use of the license-plate reading technology creates an unconstitutional “mass surveillance system.”

The civil rights suit, filed in federal court on Wednesday, said the cameras allow the San José Police Department to monitor residents’ movements in violation of the Fourth Amendment, which protects citizens against unlawful search and seizure, and asks a judge to require the city to delete most data the cameras capture after 24 hours.

“San José is operating nearly 500 license plate reader cameras connected with AI technology around the city to essentially spy on everyday people going about their business,” said Daniel Woislaw, an attorney with the Virginia-based Institute for Justice, which is representing the plaintiffs. “This kind of intrusive technology that collects basically a dossier on people on a rolling basis is a search, and therefore has to have some constitutional guardrails around it.”
