What to know about the Poway City Council District 2 race

POWAY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — In perhaps one of the most controversial races on the Primary June ballot, two candidates will face off for the Poway City Council District 2 seat that was left vacant by Tony Blain last year.

The former Poway congressman was charged in October of 2025 with four felonies and one misdemeanor. The charges included perjury, asking for a bribe, soliciting a bribe, destruction or removal of public papers and misdemeanor petty theft.

In November, Poway voters overwhelmingly voted yes to recall Blain. The following day, Blain resigned from the Poway City Council.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment in January. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.
