Related: About this forumChanges at 760AM - Denver Progressive Radio
So, David Sirota is leaving the morning show at 760AM and going to co-host an afternoon show at KHOW with right-winger Michael Brown (Bush's FEMA Director -- "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job" .
Taking over for Sirota is sometimes guest host, Gloria Neal.
What do folks think about this change?
It may be good for Sirota -- certainly more exposure and a higher profile on KHOW.
But I personally think that Gloria Neal is not good news for local progressive radio in Denver; I just don't think her style will wear well with progressive listeners in Colorado.

(14,456 posts)Look at Craig Silverman who plays a Colmes-like character to Caplis's Hannity on KHOW. I don't see KHOW giving Sirota an independent role as a true progressive, but more of a role as a foil for the conservative.

(1,879 posts)This is a mistake for Sirota. Progressive talk radio is really in the doldrums in Colorado.

(106,359 posts)Damn bad move, Sirota, IMO.

(10,602 posts)The move was kind of a surprise. It may not have been Dave's idea. I understand that both stations are Clear Channel. They may have decided to make this move. Perhaps it was a move to help Brownie get better ratings. Sirota seemingly had created a popular show. And maybe there is a plan to weaken 760am before the election. It seems like they had an impact on the elections in the past.

(6,960 posts)I heard a spot on 760AM this morning for Gloria Neal's new program and they are actually promoting it as "The Glo Show" ... she wants to be part of our lives and us to be part of her life. Sounds real engaging, uh?
Yup, I have to wonder with you that this isn't part of an effort to weaken 760AM before the election.
Clear Channel owns 760AM and we all know now that Bain Capital owns a big chunk of Clear Channel .... hmmmm.
In fact, even Sirota's current show has gotten weaker and weaker as time has gone by. In the beginning David had more in-depth discussions about national and Colorado issues. Now it has devolved into a kind of current affairs variety show -- he never spends more than about ten minutes on any given issue. And, Sirota now spends as much radio time talking about popular culture as political topics.
So, the best part of 760AM programing now is Bill Press early in the morning, Ed Schultz ... sometimes Thom Hartmann (his show isn't what it used to be) and, surprisingly to me, the Alan Combes show that starts at 10:00PM (he is quite a skilled talk show host and pretty funny).
Norman Goldman and Leslie Marshall are just horrible, horrible talkers.

(2,012 posts)I have always appreciated David Sirota's great work on 760 and his columns but after receiving an email from him re his move to KHOW I replied that I could not wade through Michael Brown's muck to hear him. When Brown came back to Colorado I thought he might have learned something from Katrina but immediately he started spewing his hateful lies on KOA, alongside Limbaugh and Mike Rosen. My family lived through Katrina; Brown never apologized for his part in the disaster, instead he blamed the victims and doubled down on his praise for the worst policies of the right-wing Republicans. I'm sure he will continue this bs on KHOW.

(24,135 posts)I stopped listening months ago, got sick and tired of him bashing President Obama every day, he said he doesn't "give a shit who is elected president". He's extremely rude to some callers too.
I don't give a shit where he sits his ass over there at Bain/Clear Channel. Will liberals go over to KHOW and risk hearing ads for Sean Hannity's or Glenn Beck's show on KHOW? I don't think so.
Gloria Neal, meh!

(6,849 posts)And not sure I can handle Brownie along side David.
Not happy about this at all.
Maybe that's the intent of Clear Channel?

(1,122 posts)I don't live in Colorado. But I had been getting the podcasts of The David Sirota Show. I don't know if his new format will be available in podcast. But what I also don't know is whether this new program will be okay or if it's going to turn out to be a mistake. I get the sense from plenty here who figure little, if any, good will come of it. I do want to be a bit more optimistic.

(32,459 posts)"The Rundown with Sirota and Brown" is on KHOW from 3pm-7pm MT; Thom's show is on KKZN 760 1pm-4pm, thus cutting into the 1st hour of the new Sirota show and making it impossible for Sirota to guest host a full Thom show in the indefinite future. Sirota was my favorite guest host on Thom's show; Karl Frisch is acceptable but gets boring quickly with all those interviews with Media Matters and long redundant segments about gay rights. Sam Seder once guest hosted in January (part 1) (part 2), and I enjoy Sam Seder's YouTube show "The Majority Report". I hope Seder can guest host for Thom more often. I don't live in Colorado and am preoccupied with the "PBS NewsHour" and Norman Goldman and other shows, so I'll check out a podcast of S&B sometime.

(6,849 posts)I won't dismiss her outright... I'll tune in when I can and see what I think.
But Sirota/Brown up against Hartmann? Don't think that's gonna happen for me.
Pity. I'm a big fan of David. Just a bigger fan of Thom.
It kinda sucks.

(1,789 posts)the glo show...what a joke. Once she was on right after the immigration decision made by Obama...she didn't get anything right. That's what I like, a progressive talk show host that feeds us misinformation...can you say "faux news"
I just don't know what Sirota was thinking....what a bad move....and he took Turk with him...sheesh.
I will never listen to David now....my loyalty is to Thom.
Surely we can find someone to do the morning show....someone..anyone...Bueller?

(6,960 posts)It's been three weeks since I first posted this topic and since Glo went on the air.
For the last week and a half I have simply not been able to bring myself to keep the radio on in the morning after the Bill Press show is over.
I can't handle the "sweet pea" thing.
I just wonder if other Colorado DUers are listening.

(24,135 posts)Gloria - meh, she used to work at Jammin, when Jammin was still around. The "sweet pea" thing would make me want to hurl, thanks for the warning. I'll never tune in now.
As for Sirota, I tuned him out several few months before the change, he got into a real weird e-mail exchange with me. He said, "I'm aware of who you are" He's down right mean to callers. I wouldn't risk hearing one promotional spot for the Sean Hannity show, which also airs on Sirota's new station.
Bad move IMO.

(6,960 posts)So, I have the radio on for a bit after the end of the 'Bill Press Show' yesterday and today (August 6 and 7).
Jim Meija is the host instead of 'Glo'.
Only on the air for two to three weeks and she's out?
Vacation? Surgery? Already a ratings disaster?
Meija is a better host that 'Glo' anyway ... maybe Clear Channel ought to just make him the permanent host.

(1,230 posts)but at least he is smart. Gloria, is not, and I dont listen to her. As for Sirota, dont know and dont care where KHOW is on the radio dial.
I wish 760AM would get Stephanie Miller on in the mornings, she is better than anything on in Denver right now. I think they want local content no matter how bad it is.

(6,539 posts)She actually said that creationism should be taught in science classes. I enjoyed some of the well-thought-out responses to her but she dismissed them. Still, I was looking forward to her next show when I had hoped that someone would finally demonstrate how repugnant creationism being taught in a science class is to most scientists.
Instead that show delivered even wilder, crazier RW fanatics defending creationism. Did you know that oil was created due to the pressure of the water on the earth during the great flood? Truly ridiculous! Carbon dating anyone? It almost looks like the Conservatives, that she's been courting for so long, have finally decided to sabotage her show.
Science, through suffering and careful hard work, has earned the right to throw the non-evidence based religion out of science. Also, the movement to force false religion into science is being carried out by political hacks who want nothing more than to destroy knowledge. Funny how the Bible says that you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. Yet today's false religion tries to do everything it can to sequester the truth making us all slaves to their whims.

(143 posts)I do not enjoy listening to Gloria. But in the morning I'm listening to NPR or Amy Goodman.
