After two recent fatal crashes, Thornton neighbors want something done.

A horrific accident on Saturday killed one person and sent four people, including an infant, to the hospital.

Another deadly accident occurred at Highway 7 and Holly Street in July.

Neighbors in the Eagle Shadow community said although they want a traffic signal installed immediately and are frustrated about the time it’s taking to get the job done.

Paul Dollinger saw the aftermath of one accident and is extremely unsettled about the safety of living so close to the roadway.

“I just moved in here and I'm ready to put my house on the market," he said.

Mario Acklin, another neighbor, said residents feel “trapped."

"Everyone who lives in Eagle Shadow neighborhood, we have no choice but to go across this intersection," he said.

The posted speed limit is 60 mph, but traffic flows much faster. Many said speed combined with a hill and what neighbors call confusing left turn lanes make the intersection risky at best for drivers.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said there were six accidents at the intersection from 2010 to 2015. More recent statistics are not yet available, but residents said new development is causing heavier traffic.

I've been saying it for a long time, as development has expanded in Thornton, the roads have become very dangerous. Thornton does nothing to solve the problem. Thornton should not be allowed to expand, it's run by idiots.
