House Republicans Walk Out of Equal Pay Day Debate

Today (April 4) is Equal Pay Day, commemorated by women’s advocacy groups as the day that marks how much more women must work in order to equal the prior year’s earnings by the average man in the same position. Each year, Equal Pay Day is observed in Colorado with the passage of a legislative resolution–at least in chambers controlled by Democrats–and a debate over the continuing struggle of women to achieve equality in the workplace.

Unfortunately, many Colorado House Republicans took the chance to make a different statement:

By walking out of the chamber during debate over the resolution. As you can see in this photo from Rep. Leslie Herod, it wasn’t the whole GOP caucus–but it was enough to make them look pretty bad. We haven’t heard any explanation given by Republicans who walked out, and we don’t honestly expect one. It’s just another “microaggression” that the news cycle has no time for in the Trump era. Too many greater offenses up the food chain, we guess.

Still what you’d call a “dick move.” Pun intended.
