Hickenlooper touts Obama to distracted Democratic convention audience
CHARLOTTE, N.C. Gov. John Hickenlooper cited President Barack Obama's help in Colorado's year of tragedy from the forest fires to the drought to the Aurora movie theater shooting as reason for his endorsement at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday.
In his six-minute prime-time speech, Hickenlooper said he got to know the president when he came out to Colorado to tour damage from the Waldo Canyon fire in Colorado Springs and then again when he visited victims from the Aurora shooting.

It took a couple of years before Hickenlooper, who works hard at an apolitical, bipartisan image, to openly praise the president.
Yet his big speech Wednesday was delivered to a rambunctious crowd that didn't quiet in the crowded room. Much of Hickenlooper's somber words particularly those about the Aurora shootings and the wild fires were drowned out by the din of jubilant noise of Democratic delegates and guests.
