The Colorado Parks and Wildlife department has issued its annual warning to residents and visitors to be wary of wildlife after two elderly men were injured in encounters with a moose and elk over the last week.
The warning is similar to one Yellowstone National Park officials released last month, reminding visitors that elk are more aggressive than normal this time of year.
The CPWs warning comes in reaction to two incidents in the last week involving elderly men and wildlife, both of which resulted in injuries: one occurred in Steamboat Springs, while another took place in Evergreen.
Although neither incident was believed to be the result of irresponsible behavior, both serve as examples that wildlife are wild, and can act in unpredictable ways, according to the CPW.

(106,337 posts)These idiots try to get the elk's attention and get way too close. In Rocky Mountain National Park, it is even worse. And, I experienced tons of tourists in Yellowstone trying to get selfies with the bison--even putting their toddlers on the bison's back. Ask any National Park Ranger what they see and then you tell me that irresponsible human behavior is not behind 99.99% of these incidents. Just because some diplomatic wildlife employee chose to not embarrass the old idiot does not make it so. That it happened at all means he was TOO CLOSE.

(2,352 posts)It never would have happened. Hudson's (may he rest in peace) thunderous, booming, repetitive, and persistent barking--all the things that made him a favorite of my asshole neighbor next door--would've kept the parties apart.
