D51 approves two measures for November ballot
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) On Aug. 20, the D51 Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the language of two ballot measures for November, giving the go-ahead to be decided by Mesa County residents.
D51 Superintendent Brian Hill says neither measure will increase taxes for Mesa County residents if the measures are passed.
One of the items on the ballot will be a bond measure. If passed, the district will allocate $190 million to improve and renovate Fruita Monument and Central High schools, high-priority repairs across the district such as roof replacements and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) upgrades, safety and security enhancements at all schools, special education renovations in elementary schools and new furniture and upgraded classroom instructional technology in middle schools.
The other item on the ballot will be to extend the expiring mill levy override that was passed by voters in 2017. If passed, it would authorize D51 to extend its annual tax of a maximum of $6.5 million to be utilized for general fund purposes.
