1% sales and use tax increase makes Severance's ballot

Severance voters will decide this November whether to increase the town’s sales and use tax rates by 1% to maintain and repair town roads. The measure would also remove a monthly fee for residents.

The town council approved the measure for the November ballot in a 7-0 vote on Tuesday night. The increase would bring both tax rates up to 4%.

Severance Mayor Matthew Fries explained town officials are seeking the increase to kickstart growth in the small town that hit a roadblock in recent years.

In October 2021, the North Weld County Water District imposed a moratorium on new taps for the entire district, including Severance. The water district treats the town’s water, and it can’t send more water than it currently does to keep up with the district’s growth, Fries said.
