Three Broomfield ballot items are proving contentious for voters

ome Broomfield residents have concerns with three items appearing on the ballot, so they started the Protect Your Vote – Vote No on 2A, 2B, & 2G campaign, a local issue committee.

Two of the ballot issues – 2B and 2G – deal with term limits for Broomfield’s elected officials; and the third – 2A deals with election law. The Broomfield residents against the ballot issues say, for example, that 2A “weakens your right to recall corrupt politicians,” according to the group’s website, protectyourvotenow.com.

Rick Fernandez is one resident who believes that the questions shouldn’t have ended up on the ballot in the first place. He believes that the Broomfield government should spend more time in substantive issues rather than suggested charter changes.

“My biggest problem with these three (ballot items) is that they’re even bringing them forward at all,” Fernandez said. “This is a priority problem that the city council has had for a number of years.”
