CHAFFEE COUNTY BALLOT RETURNS RUNNING BEHIND 2020

Asked about possible reasons for why the 2024 Chaffee County ballot returns are running behind the 2020 election, Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder Lori Mitchell said she didn’t have an explanation other than “There are a lot of measures on ballot, maybe folks are just taking their time.”

As of the end of the day Friday, October 24, registered voters in Chaffee county have returned 4,826 ballots, compared to 8,288 ballots as of this same date in 2020. With ballot return running at 58.2 percent of the rate four years ago — this leaves a huge number of ballots still to be turned in during these final nine days of voting.

A look at the categories reveals that the ballot return rate of Republicans is lagging both Unaffiliated voters and Democrats

Voters can drop their mail ballots in the 24/7 ballot boxes in front of the Chaffee County Administration buildings in Salida, or Buena Vista, or stop by the community voting centers in Salida (Legion Hut) or at the Buena Vista community Center:
