Over 1M Colorado ballots returned with one group taking the lead

DENVER (KDVR) — Even though Election Day is over a week away, over 1 million Colorado voters already returned their ballots either by mail or in person, with one group taking the lead in returned ballots.

The Colorado Secretary of State said 1,059,861 total ballots were returned as of Oct. 27, with over 1 million of them being mail-in ballots and over 16,000 being in-person voters. This number increased by almost half a million votes in less than a week, as 637,597 ballots were cast in Colorado as of Oct. 23.

According to a chart provided by the secretary of state, this year’s voter turnout is much lower than the 2020 election, but one group has returned more ballots than the other parties so far.

According to the Secretary of State, Unaffiliated voters have returned the most ballots so far, with 421,781 votes, or 39.8%, identifying as Unaffiliated.

Meanwhile, Republican and Democratic votes are neck and neck as so far: 325,175 (30.68%) people who registered as Democrat already returned their ballot, while 299,264 (28.24%) people registered as the Republican party submitted their votes.
