Bridgeport, CT, leads nation in credit card debt

Nearly 23 percent of cardholders in the Bridgeport area owe more than $10,000 on their cards, and nearly 2 percent owe more than $50,000.

“About one in six credit cardholders in America’s biggest cities carry a balance of $10,000 or more and none of those cities has a higher percentage of these cardholders than Bridgeport, Conn.,” the report said.

Bridgeport isn’t the only area in Connecticut with high credit card debt.
Hartford area residents were ranked sixth n the U.S. with 18.5 percent owing more than $10,000 on their cards, and 0.9 percent owe more than $50,000.

The New Haven area was ranked 14 n the U.S. with 17.8 percent owing more than $10,000 on their cards, and 0.6 percent owe more than $50,000.
