Several fall ill at Yale; officials probe coffee maker
NEW HAVEN >> Several people were hospitalized after falling ill at the Yale School of Medicine on Tuesday, and officials say theyre looking into whether a coffee maker is to blame.
Deputy Fire Chief Orlando Marcano said at least three people reported feeling lightheaded and dizzy at a Yale School of Medicine building on Tuesday afternoon. Each had drunk from a water source in Sterling Hall of Medicine.
The building wasnt evacuated.
Officials havent determined the cause for the illnesses, but Marcano said they reportedly drank from the same coffee machine. The people were monitored at Yale New Haven Hospital, officials said. Yale spokeswoman Karen Peart said Wednesday that four people who fell ill were released from the hospital Tuesday.
City emergency management officials said the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is analyzing the coffee maker and cups.
