A Capital Weather Gang tradition unlike any other🤣. We declare winter OVER in DC...

We can safely say winter is over in Washington.

'Whether you subscribe to the meteorological (March 1) or calendar (March 20) definition, it’s unmistakable: Spring is here, and winter is over in Washington.

Every year, our tradition is to declare winter over when we no longer see an opportunity for sustained cold and/or accumulating snow. Our proclamation of spring is not beholden to definitions, and it simply reflects whether the weather pattern might support any more conditions that could be reasonably considered wintry for more than a brief spell. Our assessment is that it cannot.

Spring weather, but for a chilly blip here or there, is here to stay.

Arguably, we could have declared winter dead last week, but a chilly air mass on Friday and Saturday held us back. It ended up being a bit milder than expected, and we probably should have made the call on March 17.

In any event, the forecast for days ahead is decidedly springlike, featuring lots of mild weather with highs in the 60s and 70s. Early next week, we may see temperatures pull back a bit, with highs in the 50s, but there’s little or no anomalous cold in sight.'>>>

He was begging for the table and sandals last week. He’s had no preschool and been stuck in the house. He’s done with it. (I am in denial about the cicadas).
