PM Update: Today's record and near-record warmth gives way to more springlike conditions
this weekend.
Strong to severe storms are possible Sunday.
It was our first day of 80-degree temperatures this year. I love the 80s myself, but it felt a bit warm to my unacclimated self. Dulles Airport got to at least 81 degrees, which beats the old record of 78 for the date. While we got up to at least 84 in the city, that fell short of the record for the date by a few degrees. And not to be left out, BWI airport was close to a record, as well, reaching 83. Wind gusts didnt get quite as high as they could have, but most folks saw them rise to around 40 mph here and there. The wind will calm this evening ahead of a very springlike weekend.
Through tonight: Skies should be mostly clear this evening and through the night. Lows should be in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Winds will diminish quite a bit with sunset, then become lighter into the night.
Tomorrow (Saturday): Well start off with very sunny conditions. With time, clouds should build, but its likely to be only partly cloudy. Highs should head for the low 70s or so. Winds from the south should gust to around 25 mph.
Sunday: There could be some overnight showers that end by morning. Through the day, it should be partly to mostly cloudy. As we head through the afternoon, showers and storms will grow more likely. A few of the storms may be severe into the evening, with damaging wind being the main threat beyond rain and lightning. Before the rain, highs should be in the low to mid-70s. Winds should be from the southwest, gusting to around 35 or 40 mph late, with stronger gusts possible in storms.
