I live in central Alexandria. I was inside, WFH, when I heard them. I grabbed my binoculars and went out to find them. They were still down by the Woodrow Wilson Bridge when I spotted them. We must have seen them at the same time, or you saw them a few seconds before I did.

There are always planes heading into National Airport and helicopters into Joint Base Bolling. Its always just kind of loud there
