'I'm Really Grateful': Afghans Fleeing Taliban Land at Dulles Airport.

One woman's work with an American nonprofit organization helped her and her family get out of the country.

Dozens of families who fled Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the country landed on Tuesday at Washington Dulles International Airport.

A Qatar Airways flight arrived at the airport outside Washington, D.C., in the afternoon. Passengers waited to be relocated by the federal government.

An Afghan woman named Bushra was on that flight with her husband and young child.

"I want to take this moment and thank the American people and Afghan people who have lost their lives, and I want to honor both of them. Thank you," Bushra said.

In Afghanistan, Bushra worked for the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, an organization that supports people grieving the death of a loved one who was in the military. Once the Taliban seized control of the country, TAPS worked with the State Department to get Bushra and her family on one of the last commercial flights out of the country.

"Oh my gosh. It was, it was beautiful just to know they've arrived in America. They're safe," said Bonnie Carroll, of TAPS.

Bushra worked with Afghan women to make blue bracelets for TAPS, which sold them to support American and Afghan families who lost loved ones in the war.

Certainly those that served the US forces and our allies needs to have our protection and transport . But I would extend that beyond to all the women in particular that want to leave this repressive government that is taking over.

We had no business in staying there longer than it took to get Osama bin Laden.... but we did stay there for 20 years, and we changed their society. Now it is up to us to assure that those that wish to leave, can leave.

I wish we could trade every Afghan who wishes to leave for every seditious cult stooge that feels our country has gone to hell.... in particular those seditious rednecks that think it’s time for a second Civil War. But that’s only my wishful thinking..

Save them all that want to escape that nightmare that is coming back to Afghanistan

I heard on the news today that there were more women in Kabul today than earlier this week. Many had been afraid to go outside. I don't know what has changed, maybe the additional US troops, but I hope it continues.
