Cherry trees at the Tidal Basin are approaching peak fall color.

Fall foliage at the Tidal Basin is beautiful, and often overlooked.

'Cherry blossoms steal the show every spring, but fall foliage at the Tidal Basin is also beautiful and often overlooked. During early November, gorgeous shades of red and yellow paint the cherry trees along the water’s edge. And without thousands of cherry blossom spectators, the Tidal Basin is surprisingly peaceful to visit.'

It's unusually temperate for this time of year. Last year we got snow & a cold snap before the trees even turned, & when that happens you never get nice color. The leaves just sort of fade & then fall. This year the weather has been perfect & the colors fabulous. Today's our last really nice day. Most of the trees have lost their leaves, but there are still a few colorful ones. I would take fall cherry trees over spring any day, but I'd love to see both.
