Washington Football Team Postpones Sunday Game Amid COVID-19 Outbreak
Héctor Alejandro Arzate
The Washington Football Team has officially postponed its next game against the Philadelphia Eagles, originally planned for Sunday. The game is now scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Its one of three NFL games planned for this weekend that have been rescheduled as COVID-19 cases rise across the league.
We have made these schedule changes based on medical advice and after discussion with the NFLPA as we are seeing a new, highly transmissible form of the virus this week resulting in a substantial increase in cases across the league, the NFL said in an official statement on Friday.
At least 23 players have been placed on the WFTs reserve list of players affected by the virus, including starting quarterback Taylor Heinicke and second stringer Kyle Allen. Team officials had already made last-minute changes to stay on track for the Week 15 game: Just today, the team
signed quarterback Garrett Gilbert in hopes of starting him on Sunday in Philadelphia.
