Hundreds gathered in front of the Supreme Court on Monday night following the news about a leaked opinion indicating that a majority of the court is prepared to overturn Roe v. Wade.

This decision was made at the federal level. Sure they can do it in the various state capitals, but JohnSJ May 2022 #4

The action's not in Washington. It's in the capitals of fifty (give or take) states.

There should be marches in state capitals, because that's where you can make a difference. I know that access is codified in some states, so you won't need marches there.

Or, much better than marches, voting. If enough people vote, access will be codified. Otherwise, forget it.

Thanks for writing, and good morning.

it won't get the attention it deserves that a march on Washington would. It needs to be decided at the Federal level.

It all centers around Civil Rights which are personal rights and protection from unlawful discrimination.

That is why the Civil Rights Act and Americans with Disabilities Act was passed by Congress, and this also needs to be passed by Congress in my view.

It makes no sense for one state to treat the rights of a woman in a discriminatory fashion, and another state not to discriminate.

It will come down to those with means will have the freedom to travel to states that allow a woman to choose, while those without means will not have that ability.

It is almost a certainty that there will be states that will have no exceptions for abortion, including rape, incest, or the life of the mother, and women in those states who lack the means will be forced to carry to term, or risk their lives seeking a risky procedure in that state.

This will also extend too more than just that. It likely will force the woman to carry to term a fetus which has a severe birth defect.
