When I grew up in Phila they always said, "It isn't the heat, it's the humidity". I went to Brazil and the heat and humidity combo nearly killed me, way worse than Phila ever was.

@ 72 degrees F!!!

I remember my sister was drenched by 8AM just by walking a few blocks to her job in Center City in the Summer. My college grad gift was an A/C. It saved me.

I found I couldn't use it since the windows closed sideways and not up and down. When I eventually became a teacher for 1st grade there was no A/C in the classrooms and we taught until July 20th (year round calendar at the time). My dad brought my college A/C over to my classroom and we installed it but it made no difference since the classroom was too big. I would also have to remove it every night for school safety. My classroom was 92 degrees and the poor kids were not able to focus and I had to spray them with water for relief. They DID learn how to read a thermometer however since each day for our Math lesson I put the thermometer on the overhead projector and they said in unison, "It's 94 degrees" and I sprayed them with more water.
