New coronavirus cases leaped in Florida in the week ending Sunday, rising 42% as 15,684 cases were reported. The previous week had 11,048 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Florida ranked fifth among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States increased 10.4% from the week before, with 92,148 cases reported. With 6.45% of the country's population, Florida had 17.02% of the country's cases in the last week. Across the country, 28 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.
Many places did not report cases and deaths around the Fourth of July, which would shift those cases into the following week and make week-to-week comparisons inaccurate.
Sarasota County reported 139 cases in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 81 cases. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 34,230 cases and 844 deaths.

I suspect Sarasota infection rates will continue to climb after last Saturday's LoserPalooza, although a lot of the Trumpanzees were from out of town -- so they'll be helping spread the virus in their hometowns.

(19,312 posts)the C-19 virus info like he's done before. Allowing the truth to leak out to Florida's citizens isn't SOP. I'm sure the GOP lie and propaganda machine will be humming along in due course.
He's too busy running for the prez nomination. He can only keep so many of those plates spinning on sticks at a time.

(11,248 posts)She's in Venice, which is in Sarasota County. She was disgusted with people down there. She said that, although the priest at her church was still urging people to wear masks, most of them aren't. She's a Eucharistic Minister, so she wears a mask. People are saying to her, "well, you're vaccinated, right? That means you don't have to wear a mask any more." She just asks them if THEY are vaccinated. When they give the inevitable "well, no," she just tells them that that's why she remains masked.

(778 posts)I had been following worldometer and for several weeks Florida had a considerably higher number than the other States, including California and Texas, who have a larger population than we have. He claims he changed it to weekly reporting because we entered a new phase. Right! A phase of being tired of having the highest cases everyday because it will make him look bad. He claims his handling of this was a success.
At this point, there are still a small group of us who go to an outdoor service, but since the other four services are now in full force and held inside, very few of us are out on the lawn. I see them walking into the church mask
less and no social distancing is required if you are vaccinated. I know better than to believe that everyone who goes there will be telling the truth and wear a mask if they are not vaccinated. Not sure what we will do once they stop having the outdoor service. I'm not going in there.
