With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, ammunition got very expensive and very hard to find.
Now that America is starting to reopen, ammo is slowly starting to reappear on store shelves.
Prices are still sky high, however, and industry leaders estimate it could be 12 to 24 months before the cost of ammunition returns to pre-COVID levels.
"I would tell people who are holding out and thinking the prices are going to drop that they might want to start looking, to kind of turn a phrase a little bit, to bite the bullet and buy the ammunition that you want now, if you can find it," said Mark Oliva, director of public affairs for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearm industry trade association.

(24,094 posts)the gun nuts claimed that this nefarious event was happening here and there, and of course NOTHING ever happened (but of course they screamed and yelled that crime would soar, that they would seize our guns etc. etc. etc.).
All utter nonsense. Talk about a paranoid group of people, desperately trying to hang onto any nefarious plot (or plots) so they can continue to stockpile their guns, knives, poison gas, and other weapons of personal choice to use against their perceived enemies.

(17,436 posts)It's not like they have a short shelf life. It's not like numbnuts are at a range firing $1000 worth of ammo a week. Yet I know people who will snatch up 500 rounds when they see a sale.
It's amazing what people will spend money on.

(17,757 posts)Panic buying and hoarding left a shortage. Gunowners showed ammo makers that they were willing to pay four times the price for the product. The ammo makers paid attention and are in money heaven. Now the shooting community is hunting other scapegoats to explain the rise in price and the shortage, they will not admit that panic buying was the culprit. The same thing happened when Obama was elected too, but not to the scale of this one. All of the right-wingers feel that they have to be prepared for the new civil war. (coming any day now)
I find it interesting that the rightwingnuts, who are also revolution proponents, have not yet connected the dots that, in the case of a civil war, they do not have a logistical chain to provide the ammo (and everything else) that they would need to carry out a prolonged armed insurrection. The idiots think that all they need to go up against the people and the U.S. Army is a set of camo, an AR, a thousand rounds of ammo and a couple of cases of beer. They have fantasies of shooting up the liberals, Latinos, the blacks, assuming dictatorial powers and then have the untermench survivors board the cattle cars for the trip to nowhere. They believe that all of this can happen quickly and without pain to themselves. After all, they have the guns and Donald Trump....
