Diversity, inclusion and the possibility of living an open and genuine life in Florida are being threatened, according to LGBTQ+ and Hispanic groups and allies that are asking the community to get together against several bills in the Legislature they say are detrimental.
Ricardo Negrón Almodovar , co-founder of the group Del Ambiente, an organization focused on creating a safe space for LGBTQ+ people, especially in the Latino and Puerto Rican community, said the situation is very unfortunate.
SB 1834 and HB 1557, known as the Dont Say Gay bill, seek to prohibit topics of sexual orientation and gender identity from being discussed in primary grades. This will have the effect of leaving LGBTQ+ youth without a secure support system in their homes homeless, as they will no longer be able to count on vital resources in schools, Negrón Almodovar said.
He says that although this has been the main bill discussed in news outlets and local groups, he fears so many dont know about several others that put at risk the life and mental health of so many LGBTQ+ and Latinos in our state.

(1,962 posts)It's a feature, not a bug. The cruelty is the point. This is QOP "leadership" now - seeing how much pain they can inflict upon "the others", especially the rainbow/alphabet.
These damned bills are going to get people hurt, or worse. And the worst part is knowing that's what these monsters want.
I hate Florida Nazis.

(10,403 posts)I had reasons before this. Never in my life will I now. Just another method for LGBTQ children to kill themselves. That's what the pro life party wants. I just wanna hug these kids and tell them its going to be okay. But I know it won't be.

(1,962 posts)What's sad is my mom was born there. Panama City. Not that she was there long - grandpa was in the Air Force, so, within a few years, it was off to his next post. But if she were alive today, she'd look at her state of birth with horror and disgust.
I hope for many hugs for the LGBTQ kids of Florida and other red states. They need all the hugs they can get.
It's indeed stories like this that erase any and all doubt that the right is "pro life." Heartbreaking, indeed.

(67,112 posts)people ... and who will be next!!! FFS, in many ways it reminds me of 1930's Germany. This guy DeSantis is very dangerous to the survival of the US ... he has sociopathic presidential interests. His message ... I can be more cruel than Trump, vote for me. He's a dangerous thug!
