Val Demings says "If I defeat Marco Rubio in Florida, Democrats are virtually guaranteed to keep Senate control."
1. Sounds great, but is it true?
2. Is there any hope that she could do that?
She'll be hosting an event next week in Sunrise. I'm sure she'll get the votes down here in Broward, but...

(19,061 posts)That eventually eliminates Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, raises taxes on over 50% of Americans while protecting the very rich, takes away veteran's benefits, and more. Marco Rubio is in agreement with that plan if the Senate takes control.
She stresses that, she has a shot because Florida has a LOT of Seniors who draw Social Security, are on Medicare, Military veterans who earned those benefits, nor do not want to see their taxes go up.

(5,768 posts)but from what I know about Florida politics, which is very little, I'd say the odds are against her. Hope I'm wrong.

(941 posts)She should, but demographics are against her. Florida Man, Cubans, and Puerto Ricans, oh my! Rubio will bet Rick Scott's help. Scott knows how to work the Puerto Ricans in central Florida. When he ran against Nelson, he was the only Florida politician to go to Puerto Rico after the Hurricane.
But I might be wrong, I hope I'm wrong.

(18,529 posts)Im also sure that Rubio will benefit from millions in dark money, so Demings will need every penny for the fall campaign.

(8,212 posts)Nothing is written in stone. It's easy to opt out of the fray and engage in self-fulfilling prophecy. Asking if it's hopeless sounds like a way to solicit reasons for doing nothing (because it might be hopeless). As for winning in Broward- how about winning Broward by more? GOTV!

(3,441 posts)As a Floridian, it's just absolutely critical. Rubio is an awful, sniveling little hypocritical turd. Demings would be a tremendous improvement, not to mention flipping a Senate seat to the D column, which would be beyond fantastic!!
We all need to find a place to plug in and work!! Find a candidate you like, be strategic and put your efforts where they can make the most difference! Every little bit counts.
