Related: About this forumHave you found any good peaches yet?
I found some at a small market last week and they were delicious. Then I tried the ones at the grocery store and they were hit or miss. So far, I haven't seen any from South Carolina and they are usually really good.
Anybody here from peach country?

(19,178 posts)I will go to DeKalb Farmer's Market this weekend and they clearly label them: SC, GA, NJ, etc.
Peaches are wonderful!

(113,130 posts)is to get the canned ones. The peaches in the store are picked when they're green and rock hard, exposed to ethylene gas to change their color, but they remain rock hard and taste like nothing.
I knew a peach grower back in Mass, specialized in white and heirloom peaches. Now those were wonderful. The big green golf balls here, not so much.

(16,296 posts)Bought a small basket (6 or so) at the local fruit market and they are everything they brag about. The juice and texture was outstanding.

(16,500 posts)being so close you think I would. But GA is the peach state so there may be some battles about bringing them in. Ha!

(10,317 posts)and some horrible ones from Kroger. I got a few early ones from Publix and they never got soft. The color was good, but they were rock hard. Our Kroger usually has GA and SC peaches, but I've noticed that some are just labelled "US Produce." Sometimes we can get good ones from Ingles Markets.
Local news just had a farmer talking about how much rain is needed right now.
I guess I need to be patient.

(16,500 posts)they are from Georgia and pretty small. But it turns out, they are very good. Had some with vanilla ice cream last night and it made me glad to be alive.
