Related: About this forumWould anyone be interested in taking over as the host of this group?
When I originally volunteered to host here, I believed my participation at DU3 would be much greater than it has proven to be. Due to various personal circumstances (nothing major, just life) and a general disinterest on my part, I haven't been visiting DU much lately and I don't anticipate that will change in the foreseeable future.
As you can see, our little group is only followed by a small number of DUers and doesn't get much activity, so I don't think hosting here needs to be that involved. In fact, I think locking one thread (started by a now PPR'd member) is the only action I have taken in my official duties as host. The demands aren't that great, but I think our group would be better served by having someone in that role who is more present than I am.
In fact, our group may not even need a host at all, but I think it's important to have someone available (other than the admins) who is able to handle someone who wants to disrupt this group ... should that ever happen.
So, any takers? If so, please reply to this thread and let me know. I'll assign you hosting responsibilities and then remove myself.
Thanks, all!

It doesn't sound like much hassle. Does being a raging know-it-all tyrant disqualify me?
Edit: Oh heck, I'll do it. Just let me know what it is I'm supposed to do.

(11,550 posts)First off, I'm sorry I haven't been around to reply sooner than now. Like I said in my OP, I'm hardly ever here any more. I can't believe it's been almost two months!
There really isn't anything that's in any kind of urgent need. The only thing I ever did was keep my eyes open for trolls or spambots to make sure that they weren't disrupting the group here. If someone is disruptive, and a jury (as inconsistent as they are) can't or won't censor them, having a host that can block them from the forum can serve as a last line of defense. But in a year, this has never happened. As little activity as this group gets, I don't expect that to change.
There are other "super powers" that you will have as a host, and the host functionality is fairly straightforward and easy to understand. A list of those powers can be found here. After I post this reply, I will promote you to group host and retire myself. That will automatically make you the lead host of this group and you can then shape it as you see fit.
A benefit of being a group host is that you will have access to the "Forum & Group Hosts" topic forum. You should now see it as a red folder in the folder list on the left.
If you have any further questions, feel free to reply here or send me a PM. I will check in again in the next couple of weeks to see if there are any replies from you -- if not, I will assume no news is good news!
Thanks again!
