The security of Georgias touchscreen electronic voting machines will be under scrutiny in a federal courtroom Wednesday.
A group of voters and election security advocates want a federal district court judge to order the state to not use the machines in this Novembers election and replace them with paper ballots.
...
Early voting in the state begins on Oct. 15 and election officials say a switch at this point would mean chaos, and potentially suppress turnout.
Georgia is one of 14 states that use electronic voting machines that do not leave a paper trail that can be audited after an election and is one of five states that exclusively use the machines. Cybersecurity experts along with the Senate Intelligence Committee say the machines can leave elections vulnerable to hacking. In a worst case scenario, hackers could manipulate vote totals without detection.

(21,615 posts)This was immediately post-2000 presidential election stolen for Bush by FL GOP and the Supreme Court ruling.
God only knows what then Democratic Secretary of State, Cathy Cox, was thinking. The unintended consequences of her actions gave the state wholly over to the GOP, including the shameful and treasonous stolen election for GA senator in which Saxby Chambliss compared Senator Max Cleland (Vietnam war hero missing 3 limbs) to Osama bin Laden and Sadam Hussein.
I met Cathy Cox, when she was Secretary of State, at the State Capitol (Gold Dome) prior to the 2000 elections. She was an up an coming Democrat and could have been governor. She's long gone now, just a terrible footnote in Georgia election history.
Guess who's in charge of our 100% electronic voter registration, poll book and election system now? None other than Brian Kemp, current Republican Secretary of State and the GOP candidate for Georgia governor in 2018. The very same guy who denied the Russians hacked our voting system when the Feds told him it was 100% sure that they did.
To make things worse, Kemp is from and lives in my community!
