Breaking News: Georgia will mail absentee ballot forms to all voters for May primary

Georgia will mail absentee ballot forms to all voters for May primary
POLITICS 31 minutes ago
By Mark Niesse, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Tuesday that all of Georgia’s 6.9 million active voters will be mailed absentee ballot request forms for the May 19 primary, a major push to encourage voting by mail during the coronavirus pandemic.

The absentee voting effort will allow Georgians to decide on their choices for president and other elected offices from home, without having to visit in-person voting locations where the coronavirus could more easily spread. Early voting and election day precincts will remain open.

A large number of people voting by mail would be a significant change in the way elections are run in Georgia. While the state has allowed any voter to cast their ballot by mail since 2005, just 7% of voters did so in the 2018 election for governor.

The state’s vote-by-mail initiative follows an agreement by Raffensperger, a Republican, and the Democratic Party of Georgia to delay the previously scheduled March 24 presidential primary because of the coronavirus. The presidential primary will now be held May 19, along with races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, the Georgia General Assembly and local offices.

I already early voted in the Georgia Democratic Presidential primary, which was the only race on the ballot.

Prior to this latest announcement, but after the postponement of the March 24 primary, I heard a radio interview with the GOP Secretary of State about exactly how people who’ve already voted, will be able to vote in the additional races on the May ballot.

I hope my vote won’t be lost or trashed by the new voting machines and software. I don’t trust Kemp and Raffensperger. Hopefully, Stacey Abrams’ voting rights organization will be monitoring the situation.

1. This is good news and the right thing to do. I'll probably drop my completed ballot off.

Although, I'm old enough to remember the days of stuffed, or lost, ballot boxes.

I’m not sure how they’ll handle my currently recorded early vote for Joseph R. Biden in the Democratic Presidential Primary.

I’m excited to be able to vote to get our newly appointed Criminal Barbie Senator out of office.

concern with her is that GOPers will select Doug Collins. But maybe Georgians will wise up by November.

I've voted absentee by mail since I stood in line for 8 hours to vote against george war bush in 2004.

Did you know she’s married to the head / CEO of the NYSE!

Collins is absolutely frightening too.

7. I saw that when her insider trading scheme reported. Hope she and her husband have to pay for that.

MANY emails I've sent complaining about some position he had. The other thing against Collins is that DT wanted him to be appointed by the Ga. Governor to the Senate Brian Kemp. Now I don't like Kemp, but he's better than DT! I'm going to vote for Kelly Loeffler, Yes her husband is the head of the NYSE, but that's an insignificant problem compared to Collins.

I have the ever odious, fundamentalist Jody Hice as my congressman. I used to have the bat shit crazy Paul Broun, Jr.

I miss my former congressman, John Barrow (D-GA), who was gerrymandered all the way to the coast from Athens, GA.

is due to come any day now. I also knew I would have to apply for another absentee ballot for the General Election. NOW, it might be automatically sent. I LOVE the vote by mail program. Loved it since Oregon started it. Would love for Ga. to go completely vote by mail! MAYBE once it's tried, they'll fall in love with it too!

He worked for years as Secretary of State, to purge voter rolls, deny registrations, reduce the number of polling places and schedule elections for the most inconvenient times.

Stay safe! Wash your hands! Take care of yourself!

When this is all over, we’ll have to have an old fashioned GA DU meetup like we used to do! I’ve hosted meetups in my city and I’ve gone to ones in East Atlanta.
